Eduon Choi is soon to become the name on everyone’s lips due to his up-coming partnership with River Island – a defining moment for the Korean-born designer.
However, before the collaboration drops there is the not-so-small matter of his eponymous SS14 catwalk collection, which showcased yesterday at Carlton House.
Inspired by Asia, the colour palate was muted, delicate and extremely feminine. As a Menswear graduate there is usually a masculine element to Choi’s shows, but this season is was all about the girls.
Sugary pink shifts, lilac flower printed coats and baby blue shirts were the basis of the collection, with unexpected pops of fuchsia, cobalt, canary yellow and multi-coloured beading on the collars and cuffs of jackets.
The silhouette further accentuated the femininity of the collection, with structured bodices nipped in at the waist and curving out over the hips. Japanese-style kimonos were also references with silk trouser-and-robe combinations tied with a cord yet modernized with low necklines.
Last season saw Choi’s first collaboration with milliner Piers Atkinson, and the teamwork was continued for SS14 with hats and headpieces inspired by traditional Asian headwear.
Hair was prepped with lashings of mousse for a wet-look whilst fresh faces ensured that the clothes did all the talking.
We now eagerly await Eudon Choi’s high street collection with River Island as it’s sure to be a sell-out.
