2012 may be the year that Britain hosts the Olympics, but for me the most thrilling event is not about sport – it’s about art.
Due to the many tourists flocking to London next year, it only makes sense to put on extra special exhibitions, showcasing the best of British talent.
So far, this aptitude has come in the form of Damien Hirst and David Hockney; two of the greatest British artists of the century.
Hirst is well known for his striking paintings, although he can never be named without the surrounding controversy. Whether you love him or think of him to be overrated, there is no denying that his early works from 1988 – the ones that put him on the map – are still as beautiful and omnipotent. In honour of all things British, the Tate Modern is presenting 20 years of Damien Hirst from April until September 2012.Hockney will also be shown in London at the Royal Academy from January. After spending the last three years in the Yorkshire countryside, I’m looking forward to a refreshed vision from one of my all-time favourite artists.
